Lunch at the Flint Farmers Market - Part Deux

The same day I set up the smoke bush centerpiece at the Flint Farmers Market I put together a little brown, green and yellow vignette. The bouquet was pretty funky and fun with chocolate cosmos, chocolate cymbidiums, astilbe, yellow gloriosa lilies, alchemilla, and montbretia pods.

I made all the tablecloths for this vignette. I am totally in love with this green, brown and gold striped fabric!

The centerpiece contained Polar Star roses, variegated aspidistra, montbretia pods, alchemilla, and lotus pods.

Lunch at the Flint Farmers Market - Part 1

A few weeks ago my friend (and neighbor) Elizabeth called. She had some seriously overgrown smoke bush in her yard. Her problem was my dream come true! I drove over with three buckets of water and went to work. I took the clippings, along with my table setup down to the Flint Farmers Market, and here’s what I created…

I suspended an umbrella of smoke bush above the table. Extra leaves rained down onto the tabletop.

Then I put together a quick centerpiece to bring color onto the tabletop.

Finally, I whipped up a bouquet completely out of smoke bush. I love the translucency of the leaves. I also love that they are purple on the top and green on the bottom.

Alfresco Dining on the Flint River

Last week, I whipped up a sample bouquet and centerpiece. Shown below is the in-studio photo. The bouquet and centerpiece contained tweedia, succulents, zinnias, alchemilla, geranium, lisianthus, freesia and craspedia.

After photographing the pair in my studio I decided that they needed to be displayed in their own vignette. I prowled downtown Flint for a half hour, and rediscovered this sweet, pergola-covered deck overlooking the Flint River. Perfect!

It was such a romantic set up! I had my husband with me, and I should have brought dinner too! I guess there’s always next week!
